Current Index to Statistics

CIS-ED ON CDROM
Production of the CDROM version of CIS ended with Release 11 (2003). No further CDROM releases will be produced; the Web will be the only form for CIS releases.

The Current Index to Statistics-Extended Database (CIS-ED) contains the cumulative contents of the CIS Print Volumes, together with substantial material from before the publication of the first volume, including coverage of some journals extending back to their founding. The CIS-ED is published in CD-ROM format each year. Each year's release of the CIS-ED includes the entire contents of the previous year's release, with a new year's publications, and corrections and additional material for previous years. For information on the most recent release, see current status report.

The CD-ROM is formatted to be readable by PC (Windows/DOS), Macintosh, or Unix systems. Reference files are stored in a flat file format, one file for each year. These files can be searched using standard text editing and manipulation utilities. The CD-ROM also includes several sets of free software contributed by CIS-ED users, suitable for use on each of the platforms mentioned above. This software is not part of the official release and is not supported by CIS. Thanks to the dedication of the contributors, it has satisfied the needs of many users.

Starting with Release 9, the CDROM also includes an experimental SQL database in formats suitable for loading into free SQL programs (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and in Microsoft Access format. A program is provided allowing searches in the SQL database on Windows PCs.

The CD-ROM also includes abstracts and book reviews from journals that provide them.
